Whether it is meeting our Lord in Word and Sacrament, praising Him in song and prayer, working for Him in the office, teaching His children to grow, or serving Him in the world beyond our walls, what makes a church a church is the people who come together in His  Name. So join us for worship and fellowship this Sunday.

Join us  our Holy Cross family for worship and fellowship that day as we kick off a new  year of ministry in Towson!

Can’t tell your Zephaniah from your Zachariah?  Not sure if it was Noah who led the Israelites across the Red Sea or Moses who filled the ark with animals?   All this and more will be sorted out starting 11:30 a.m. Sunday, September 19, when Pastor Thurman Frey begins a ten-week course on “Discovering the Old Testament.”   No prior knowledge needed!    We will learn the books of the Old Testament and their various themes, as well as how to find a Scripture passage and use a concordance.

A separate series on “Our Neighbor’s Faith: Christianity” will also be offered at the same time.  This series will take a closer look at the doctrines of other Christian bodies and denominations.  All are invited.

Community-wide yard sale at Holy Cross.   Sell your own stuff (rent space at $10.00 each) ... or bring your own "treasures" in for Holy Cross to sell (no clothing, please).  Contact Michelle or Pastor Frey for more details.

Lutheran World Relief and its partners on the ground are rushing to provide water, water purification supplies, food, and shelter items to victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12. “At this point, water is a critical need on the ground. People have been without access to water for days in warm temperatures. Delivering clean water will help save lives in Haiti,” says LWR president John Nunes.

There are 100,000 people estimated dead following the devastating quake, with millions more affected. The quake hit 10 miles from the capital city of Port-au-Prince, toppling buildings, destroying roads and ports, and leaving most residents homeless. A 4.5 magnitude aftershock has raised fears of further damage to already unstable buildings.  More information here.

View a message and prayer from Dr. John Nunes, president of LWR.

Lutheran World Relief is Holy Cross' January benevolence emphasis, and we were very blessed to have Dr. Nunes and his wife Monique visit with us on January 10.  Dr. Nunes met with our Adult Bible Study at 9 a.m. to discuss various aspects of LWR's ministry and was also the guest proclaimer during our 10:00 a.m. worship service.   To read Dr. Nunes' comments about his day at Holy Cross as well as to gain more insight into the church's global outreach through Lutheran World Relief, check out John's Blog.

PRAYER, PRAISE AND PBJ's - next gathering on September 8 in the library

We're setting aside the first Wednesday of every month to Pray, Praise God, and have some PBJ's.  Jesus invites us to pray often, giving Him our concerns and finding rest in Him.  This is a time we can lift up those we care about in prayer, as well as share any burdens we ourselves may carry.  It's also a time for quiet reflection ... when we can "be still and know that He is God."

We start at 5:30 p.m., spending time in prayer and praises to God until 6 p.m.  Then we share a simple meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  If time is of the essence, we welcome you to pray with us from 5:30 - 6, and leave when you need to.  Come join us in our beautiful sanctuary as we take a moment to be with our Lord and Savior in prayer and praise.

God has created us and given us new life in Christ, and the Gospel has called us to lead the congregation and community to experience God's love through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

THEREFORE:
We, the members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, are moved by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Gospel. We will use our God-given gifts to build each other up in God's Spirit and reach out to our community with love and grace of Christ through Word and deed.

TO DO THIS WE WILL:

         WITNESS to the congregation and the community through service, prayer and personal sharing of God's love;

        CELEBRATE by providing an environment in our congregation in which to praise God's love through Word, forgiveness, deed, and sacrament and, as part of this spiritual growth, reach out to the community;

          NURTURE everyone through a caring, loving, supportive environment in which to study the Word and apply the Gospel to people's needs;

          SERVE others with our God-given gifts, motivated by the Spirit to fulfill God's purpose;

          Help others realize that their spiritual and material gifts come from God and can be used to enrich our church and community through STEWARDSHIP;

          Involve every member in the loving, caring community of Christ, using Bible study and congregational activities to promote spiritual growth through FELLOWSHIP.
